For you were me
and I was you
and certainly none of it was true.
I didn’t know and couldn’t do.
I tore my well-shaped plans in two
in hopes of having all of you.
But love and death are intertwined
and all of me leaves you behind.
And all of you leaves me in place
still searching for the glint of grace.
I finally got the picture that God
Himself had drawn.
I sat alone until it dawned
that we both shared His Face.
