Welcome to Help for Higher Healing’s Newsletter….

“Hi Vicki,
I’ve been reading your pieces. I’ve been gone for awhile, and something seems….new. How are you? I’m really moved, altered by the essays.”

I got that email from an old friend who had just subscribed to my blog. Subscribers get a notice welcoming them to Help for Higher Healing’s newsletter. And so I thought, why not look at the blog that way?

Feel free to email me if you want to communicate with me. I am open to hearing from readers. The next piece I post answers the question she asked me. “How are you?”

The general answer is that I am much the same as I have always been. The interior answer is encrypted by the heart and always unanswerable by the mind. I love the word “grok.” I am always better off grokking things and I suspect you are, too. I don’t have time to look it up, but it sorta means “sensing things as a whole.”

Love,
Vicki
P.S.
The next note, something about an island, is the indirect answer to her question. Hmmmm….I love a good mystery, don’t you?

  1. Well, now I’m really glad I wrote you. And am looking forward to tomorrow’s essay.

Your note above made me wonder about the question, “How are you?” Imagine, if it weren’t a social cliche, and had never been asked or heard before, and no individual had ever contemplated the question…..And then one day somebody said to you……How are you?
Wouldn’t that just stop you in your tracks for awhile.

I could be wrong, but back in the 60’s when I was teaching English at Georgia State, a student told me that the verb “grok” came from Robert Heinlein’s 1961 novel “Stranger in a Strange Land.”

    1. You offer an intriguing idea, Sandra. “How are you” is a social cliche demanding the answer “I am fine.” And then the banality is off and running. The social smile is offered perfunctorily and emptily. At the same time we are grokking each other on some invisible level. Maybe asking ourselves how we are is to enter our own private piece of land where honesty is our home.

  2. “Groking” is the best place to be and very fortunately for me I have been able to “sense things as a whole” since a huge spiritual awakening several years ago. When that happens, Creation pours in. I think I will try to grok today and every day.
