Don Theo was in town this week from Cusco, Peru. Many of us eagerly await his visits. It had been nine months since he was last in Atlanta and it felt like Christmas morning to see his face again.

What happens during an energetic healing session with him is quiet and unremarkable. But that is because I see only the tip of the iceberg. He was born into a family of healers and it is his tradition to use Peruvian healing methods. He doesn’t explain them; what he does needs no words.

As I lay there in the semi-darkness I could sense him walking around the massage table from time to time. At one point he begin to softly whistle a tune. So sweet. He was mixing some oils, perhaps. Most of the time he had his hands busily working on my body. He also had periods where he just put his hands on my head or chest and did nothing. We breathed together. Healing happened.

Afterwards my son had an appointment with him, too. As I sat there sipping water, Theo came into the reception area looking for a piece of paper and a pencil. I had my camera out, so I snapped a photo of him, his hair disarranged. I am sure he didn’t care. By the way, after a treatment, he always counsels me to take a sip of water and let it mix with my saliva before I swallow it. And then to continue doing that for the first glass.

He is gone now and yet he is always with me. Real people have that effect on you. The music goes on….
