This is so true. I would be interested in hearing what you think about praying for a specific change in the catastrophic condition as we are going through it…or are we too ill-equipped in our human condition to even know what to pray for, knowing God is in control and has a plan that is perfect…I recently was faced with this question…having no strength left to even ask anything…quit trying to make sense of it..but sat still in the heaviness..thankfully never doubting God or his plan..and, in simple words, it was too big for me to find words. Questioned myself, at the same time, because I was raised to ask for what we want and to request prayer from others….. My perspective is changing, yet I am not sure yet. Your thoughts on this are welcomed, if you feel open to that.
When we are going through a catastrophe, we pray involuntarily, which means, thank God, that we have some humanity in us. But we sense that higher help is needed. We also sense that our prayers to God to change the human scene don’t work. Never have, never will. But prayer is still meaningful. It keeps our heart open.
Having said that, there is no free will except for our attitudes and emotions. The script has already been written and is playing out. Although we know that on the higher level,
we are faced with our fears and doubts striking us with full force. It is truly an inward battlefield. One that we cannot ignore.
I suggest that going through life consciously is something we aspire to, but which we fail at again and again. Over time, perhaps, we learn humility, but even that is not so easy to come by. Hope is hope for God’s forgiveness in our ignorance. I told a man that I regretted things I had said in the past and his reply was, “You did the best you could at the time.” Truer words were never spoken.
