Check your level!

Being level-headed is not a strong suit of mine. My head is rather prone to dashing off in all directions. Expecting the worst, because the worst has happened to me twice. The loss of a child, the loss of a spouse. And now my head is less and less important, level or otherwise.

The law of levels is absolute, to use the word “level” in a different sense. What does that mean? It means that God is totally in charge. “Though He slay me, yet shall I trust Him.” But it is hard to trust the Master that leads his sheep through the valley of the shadow of death. And we are all scheduled for the journey and every hair of our head is numbered.

If you are on a low level, you will attract low-level people into your life. And one’s being attracts one’s life. So the best thing we can do is witness our lives, noticing the level of our being and what it is attracting. Don’t think of this as being abstruse or complicated. Just notice that if you are attracting a lot of needy people, your level is drawing them. Perhaps you need to say a firm NO.

If you are joyful, you will attract other joyful people. But most of us, truth to tell, are not that joyful. Personalities may seem joyful, but the essence of your being might be quite sour under the surface. So we are asked to be true, first and foremost. The showcase personality is doomed from the get-go.

I am writing this quickly and free-hand, knowing that some will nod and others will say they just don’t get it. That’s okay. There are a lot of things that I don’t get. And ignorance is almost never the bliss it is said to be.

To recap, I am not level-headed, but prone to make decisions from the heart. That is a good thing; in fact, I need to do more of it.

Whatever you get, you deserve, both in a negative and a positive sense. Nothing happens to the soul at random. God is always on purpose.

Gratitude for the heart and appreciation of the mind. Above all, unity both within and without. That may seem like a far goal, but the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
