Never Judge A Mirror

We don’t judge mirrors. That would be silly. It isn’t the mirror’s fault that you don’t like what you see in it. And the world is a mirror. Oh, yes. Oh, no. It is definitely so.

Everything is updated constantly by an object that is a mere reflecting device. As I type these words, they fall onto the mirror. Wow. Simplicity is the most stunning thing ever. I am what I see and I see what I am.

There is nothing new under the sun and the mirror is no exception. It is older than time.

Sometimes we catch our reflection in a store window and use it to rearrange our hair. But we know as we move past the mirror, we are on our own.

Well, not exactly. Since the world is a mirror, everywhere you go you are updating your status. You never needed Facebook. Facebook is a mirror of sorts, though.

I hate to break this to you, but you are not only what you eat, you are what you see in the mirror. And the mirror can be broken. What happens then?

The world cannot break, so you will still have the mirror of fellow human beings to see yourself in.

How do you look?

You look, not by seeing, but by being. When the mirror of the world sees a saint, the world changes. And when it sees a devil, it also changes.

The mystery of the mirror is too deep to reflect upon with any wisdom at all. I don’t know if you have noticed, but words are reflected in a mirror and become encoded. Isn’t that strange? Maybe that is the real meaning of the mirror. We have everything upside down and backwards. Just to know that is to make the mirror smile.

  1. You have a way of making me look again at things. Yes things are as real as I am which isn’t saying much as far as permanence. Then I thought that before mirrors were manufactured there were natural reflecting pools. A liquid stillness that reflects but if a pebble is tossed its way reflections become distorted rather wavy at times turbulent a choppy sea. Well that makes for a sea sick journey, then there are the natural ebbs and tides that have a mind of there own, of yea that’s me too, I think too much.

  2. Absolutely brilliant Vicki. I read your essays daily but as usual, madly busy at work and so very little time. I have to work to earn my keep, it is so. I wish your 4th book was a collection of all your essays and daily writing because I love them so. There must be enough material for a fairly thick one, hopefully….love, as always.
