We are not alone….

Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.”
― Fred Rogers

The moment you left
I was bereft.
But not in ways
that you might think.
I lost your smile
but gained my own
in spite of knowing
I could own no one
but me, like
leaves atremble
on the tree of life.
I, no longer wife.

You will not be back
and yet the lack of you
is sweet.
Alone I go out to the street
to meet some others
with their troubles and their grief.
They, too, atremble like a leaf.

We reach out hands and hearts
to say that we will live another
day without the ones we loved
so much. And yet the living
we now touch as those we
used to love who’ve gone.
And they are with us all along.

  1. I find that I am a recluse,
No more loss, no more gain,
Life is quiet as I watch on the net there is unrest
Then see this grumpy old man hey that’s me,
I still seek others who are akin to me,
Knowing if they get too close likely won’t be fond of me,
On the street there is possibilities of a miracle,
As I wonder if I weren’t me what’s there to like?
